Saving on ATM Withdrawals

Avoid unnecessary costs

Withdrawing cash from an ATM can be convenient, but it’s important to be aware of the costs involved. Here are some tips on how to minimize fees and save money when using your Kadmos card for ATM withdrawals.

1. Be Aware of ATM Operator Fees

When you use an ATM, the bank or operator that owns the machine might charge an ATM operator fee. This fee varies depending on the ATM and the country you’re in. Always check the screen for any fee notification before confirming the withdrawal. If the fee seems high, you can cancel and try another ATM.

2. Understand Kadmos' ATM Fee

Kadmos charges a flat fee for ATM withdrawals. The fee depends on the currency of your wallet:
  • 3 EUR, 3 USD, or 3 GBP per withdrawal, depending on whether your wallet is in euros, dollars, or pounds.
This fee is charged by Kadmos in addition to any ATM operator fees, so it’s worth keeping in mind to help you budget your withdrawals.

3. Reject the Suggested FX Conversion

When withdrawing from an ATM in a foreign country, the machine might offer you the option to use their currency conversion to convert your withdrawal into your home currency. The ATM will show you the conversion rate and ask if you want to accept or reject it.
Always reject the ATM’s suggested conversion. ATMs often use poor exchange rates that result in higher costs. By rejecting it, you’ll allow Kadmos to handle the conversion at Kadmos' FX rate, which will result in a better FX rate for you. This helps you save money when withdrawing in foreign currencies.

4. Plan Your Withdrawals to Avoid Extra Fees

To minimize fees, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and withdraw larger amounts less frequently, instead of smaller amounts multiple times. This way, you’ll pay the ATM fee fewer times while still having enough cash on hand. You can check out more on our withdrawal limits here.
Pro tip: Always check the ATM for operator fees and reject the suggested currency conversion to take advantage of Kadmos' better exchange rates. By following these steps, you can save on fees and get more out of your ATM withdrawals.
